Balloons are in all the multi-player rooms this month.
The Poptropica Creators announced that Poptropica’s 4th Birthday Party celebration has begun. All this month, you can celebrate the fourth anniversary of the launch of Poptropica. Just like last year, there’s a party going on in all the multiplayer rooms with lots of balloons. Click on them to pop them! If you’re lucky, there will be a special blue balloon in there with a big number 4 on it. Click that balloon if you see it and two things will happen. First, all the balloons in the room will pop and second, you’ll get the ultra-exclusive Poptropica Birthday Cake Costume.
The Cake Costume is awesome. It makes you look just like a giant cake. There’s even a special move for the costume when you press the space bar. You’ll start throwing pieces of cake.
Tip: If you don’t see the special blue balloon when you enter the room, just exit and re-enter to try again. You might need to repeat this a lot of times (20 or more!) before you find the fourth birthday balloon in the room.
Everyone can also get an orange 4th birthday balloon in the Poptropica Store. It’s a free item. Just like many of the other balloons from the store, you’ll be able to carry this one around with you when you play Poptropica.
Even though Mystery Train Island is still more than a week away, you can get into the spirit with the newest costume available in the Poptropica Store. The new costume is the Mystery Train Inspector, and it’s a special costume available just for members in Poptropica. It is a very cool outfit that comes with a hat and jacket that makes you look just like a classic detective from the 1800s. The best part is the giant magnifying glass that you can carry around while looking for clues. When you activate the special move for the costume by pressing the space bar, you’ll get a close up view of your eyeball peering through the magnifying glass. Kind of weird and creepy, but cool!
To get the new outfit, go to the Poptropica Store. As long as you are a member, you can get it and then put it on. It’s a great way to get ready for Mystery Train Island, which pulls into the station next week, on September 9.
The new mini-game for Mystery Train Island arrived this past weekend on Poptropica. If you’ve ever played Diner Dash or one of the many clones of that game, you already know how it works. Lots of customers come into the restaurant, and you need to seat and serve them. There’s a timer that counts down, so you have to move fast between the customers, the drink station, and the cook’s area. As you win the different rounds (or “shifts”), you can earn upgrades that really help out a lot. A nice twist is that sometimes famous customers, like Thomas Edison, eat at the D.C. Diner, and when you win the round that they visit, you get a special item to keep in your Poptropica inventory.
The game is hard at the later stages and you have to do a good job of guessing what the customers will want ahead of time. The golden rule of this game is don’t wait around and stand still. Keep moving and keep your tray full. Choose your upgrades well! It’s better to get the fast cook and fast drinks first and then the other upgrades later.
Very soon there will be a new mini-game on Poptropica. It’s called D.C. Diner and it will be a sneak peek for the new Mystery Train Island, which is going to be available soon for paid members to play in early access. The mini-game will probably be available from the main map in Poptropica soon. In D.C. Diner, you’ll hav the job of serving passengers food before they board the train. It looks like it will be just like many of the different “diner” games you can play online or on your iPhone.
Earlier this month, Poptropica released a new feature where you can turn off all the special effects on your character with one button. You used to have to turn them all of one by one by finding each card in your backpack and clicking on it to disable the effect. That got kind of annoying if you had more than a few effects activated at once. For example, if you were minimized and using a glow and who knows what else, you could spend minutes trying to find all the different cards. Now you just need to click on the button marked, “Turn off special effects” that appears near the bottom of the screen when you’re browsing through your backpack. All the effects you currently have on will be disabled and you’ll be back to normal. It’s a simple little feature, but very helpful for those of us who like to experiment with lots of different special effects on our Poptropicans. Thanks, creators!
Turn off all your special effects in Poptropica with a single button.
What did you think of Shrink Ray Island? Did you know it was Poptropica’s 20th island? That’s a lot! I thought Shrink Ray was a little bit easier than some of the more recent islands but it was really fun. And I like how it almost all takes place in one house but because you’re shrunk down to a tiny size everything feels a lot bigger. Some of the puzzles were hard to figure out. The only thing I didn’t like is that there was no big boss battle at the end. You just had to run and hide behind things and it wasn’t very difficult at all.
The big news in Poptropica right now is the announcement of Red Dragon Island. This is the newest island to come to Poptropica and it will be available soon for members to play in early access. There’s a sneak peek going on right now. If you haven’t seen it yet, head over to your map and check it out. It’s based on ancient Japan and features ninjas, sumo wrestlers and well, red dragons!
The big feature in the sneak peek is the sumo wrestling match, where you compete with other Poptropicans to win the matches and earn ranks. Members also get special outfits each time they advance a rank by winning five matches. There’s also a special Midnight Red Ninja costume available for paid members and you can get it inside the sneak peek area or in the main Poptropica store.
The latest Poptropica island has been announced and it will be called Wimpy Wonderland. This new island will feature many characters of the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, written by Jeff Kinney, who is also the creator of Poptropica! The island is drawn in the same style as the books and is all in black and white except for your Poptropican. You can go check out a sneak peek of the island right now. It’s in the middle of the main map and you’ll also get a special card in your backpack the next time you login that will let you go right there.
Members can check back in in the middle of March for more stuff. This might mean it will be released to paid members very soon!
There's danger down there deep in the underground mine.
Wild West Island arrived in Poptropica this past week, but it’s only available to paid members for now. If you’re a paid member, you can access it on your map. It’s a big adventure through several small towns in the West. You become marshal and have to track down El Mustachio Grande, a mean and terrible bandit who has been causing trouble for all the citizens of the island. Check out the walkthrough for tips on how to beat Wild West Island.
Even though it’s only available for paid members right now, everyone will get to play in March when it opens for the public.
Poptropica announced that the newest island is going to be called Wild West Island and now there’s a special sneak preview available on the main travel map in Poptropica. When you go there you have to play a game called Round ‘Em Up where you try to rope and corral three cattle in your ranch within a time limit. You have 2:30 to get three cattle inside the pen. I thought this game was very difficult at first but then I kind of got the hang of things and now it’s pretty easy to do.
There are seven prizes in all and they change every two days so you need to keep coming back to play if you want to collect all seven prizes. Most of them are cowboy style gear, of course!
